These small Rebutias grow in the Andes on the border of Bolivia and Argentina. In the past, R. atrovirens v. pseudoritteri (Rausch) was described by Wessner as Rebutia ritteri. For this reason these plants are often confused in collections.

Rebutia atrovirens var. pseudoritteri (Rausch) grows on the road from Iscayachi (Iscayache, Escayache) to Tarija in Abra de Sama at an altitude of 3,650 m above sea level. Most of these plants in collections come from Walter Rausch (WR506) and Friedrich Ritter (FR1123) cacti discoveries. I also found R. atrovirens var. pseudoritteri on the road to Tarija in the 2004 and 2006. I had a lot of luck, because I saw plants with deep red flowers.

Rebutia atrovirens var. ritteri (Wessner) grows in the northern parts of Argentina on the road from La Quiaca to Santa Victoria. Plants grow in mountains at very high altitude - 4,370 meters above sea level and this is the highest altitude at which I was able to see any Rebutia. Plants grow hidden between stones. There are a lot of low clouds at that place which protect these small cacti against the strong sunshine. R. atrovirens var. ritteri which are in collections comes from W. Rausch (WR520) discovery.

Rebutia atrovirens var. ritteri clearly differs from Rebutia atrovirens var. pseudoritteri particularly in the colour and shape of the flower.

Well, I’ve finally launched the new version of CactusAdventure.com.
Service is built as a blog based on WordPress technology.
This solution gives me much more flexibility. I can post the texts and photos. The second important modification is introduction of the Polish version. I would also like to introduce another languages but I need the support of people who would help me in the translations. If one of the readers would like to take this, then feel free to contact me: leszek.kasperski@cactusadventure.com
At the beginning of this year, me and my friends: T. Blaczkowski, M. Mieczakowski and A. Mucha, we spent together one month on trip in Argentina. We started from Mendoza by rented Ford Ranger and we got to the Bolivia border, and then we returned back to Mendoza. During this trip, we took a lot of cacti pictures and collected information about cacti habitats. We are going to publish some photos from cactus adventure in current month.

Weingartia cacti belong to my favorites. Natural habitat of Weingartia species is located in Bolivia mountains. However, Weingartia neumanniana occurs near the border between Bolivia and Argentina in both countries.

There are two subgroups of Weingartia.

One of them which is often called Cumingia can be found at North from Potosi. These plants grow on rivers banks in a warm environment.

The other subgroup is called Weingartia and can be found at South from Potosi. Just a few kilometers at South from Potosi, near the village Cuchu Ingenio, we can find the first Weingartia westii. The typical plant for this subgroup is Weingartia fidaiana. These plants grow in high mountains. Weingartia fidaiana and Weingartia westii grow - at the altitude of 3 000 m and higher, Weingartia pygmaea - at the altitude of 4 000 m.
During my previous two cactus adventures in Bolivia, I watched such species like (starting from North of Bolivia): Weingartia pulquinensis, Weingartia platygona (hediniana), Weingartia neocumingii, Weingartia sucrensis.
And from Potosi to Villazon: Weingartia westii, Weingartia fidaiana, Weingartia kargliana, Weingartia pygmaea, Weingartia neumanniana.
Now I would like to invite you to watch all these plants at my photos.
Enjoy
